Extra protection

When building a low level deck installing weed mat under the sub floor is a good idea, once the boards are all screwed down you don't want weeds popping up through the gaps.

Extra durability is also created by coating the tops and end grain of all joists with a water barrier such as a modified bitumen, it will help to repel the water from sitting on the subfloor and causing rot.

This advice on building a low-level deck is spot on! Installing a weed mat under the subfloor is a smart preventative measure that will save you from the hassle of dealing with unwanted growth later on. The additional tip of coating the tops and end grain of the joists with a water barrier is excellent for extending the deck's lifespan. It shows a keen understanding of long-term maintenance and durability. These practical steps are sure to result in a sturdy, low-maintenance deck that will stand the test of time.
